I bought a car in Ohio last May. Within two weeks of purchasing the vehicle, my husband received a transfer with his job, to Georgia. We have lived in Georgia for a year. My lienholder will not give the original title to Georgia, so that I may renew my license plate tags, after repeated requests throughout the year, from the local Tax Assessors office here, in Georgia. I’m stuck – I don’t have enough to pay off the loan, but can’t get the car tags renewed….. I can’t continue to pay on a car that I can’t drive…. What can I do? Is it possible to return the car and get the money back that I have paid on the loan thus far?
Thank you.
I’ve contacted the lienholder, I think they are willing to help. Unfortunately, I’m no longer a resident of Ohio, so I can’t keep renewing in Ohio. Georgia gave me a “temporary” registration until they received the title. Unfortunately, they didn’t tell me it was temporary – as I have a regular license plate. What a mess….. hopefully the lienholder will release the title, so it can be transferred to a Georgia title.
